Biography

Karen Spivey was born into a military family in Fort Hood, Texas, and spent her early years in Texas, Germany, Arizona, and Louisiana. Upon retiring from the Army, her family moved to Copperas Cove, Texas, then to Houston, where she graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1979. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Houston where she achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, graduating Cum Laude in 1983. After completing her undergraduate studies, Karen attended the University of Houston Law Center, where she received her law degree in 1986.

In 1987, Karen joined Gordon R. Pate in Beaumont to begin her legal practice. She immediately began honing her trial skills throughout East Texas courts, successfully representing individuals and businesses accused of wrongdoing. From the beginning of her career, she demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic. In 1991, Karen became a partner with the firm. She is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She has continually been named a Texas Super Lawyer, has attained the AV-Preeminent ranking by Martindale Hubbell for excellence in legal abilities and ethics, and the rank of Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Individuals, small businesses, and large corporations call upon Karen to represent them in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and other cases involving serious injury and significant damages. She has also served as local counsel for various national law firms and corporations.

P&S is founded on certain core principals, the first and foremost being respect for the client. Karen demonstrates her respect for the client by providing diligent, effective, and ethical legal representation. She believes that each client’s case deserves the full legal knowledge and resources of the firm.

Because of her outstanding reputation in the legal community, Karen has been called upon to serve as a member of the Federal Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for Eastern District of Texas and as Chair of the Jefferson County Professionalism Award Committee. She is licensed to practice in all Texas state courts, all federal courts in the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas and in the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit.
